Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the website http://www.comptonparishcouncil.org/.

This website is run by Compton Parish Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

Change colours, contrast levels and fonts.

Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen.

Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard.

Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software.

Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

The headers structure is poorly ordered.

It is possible to magnify the information on the page up to 500% but some tabs disappear off the page at 175%.

Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software.

The colour contrast for the ‘Planning Tracker’ tab does not meet requirements.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of the Council website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Uploaded images advertising events provided by other organisations may not have text alternatives on the image, however, this information will be given as best as possible in the accompanying text of the article.

Some of our online forms might be difficult to navigate using just a keyboard.

Our Annual Governance and Accountability Returns cannot be made accessible due to the need to scan in the documentation.

Disproportionate burden

At the present time, we have not identified any specific issues that would be of disproportionate burden.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Many of our older PDF documents may not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader. The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. However, if there is a particular document you need converting please let us know and if at all possible, we will update it.

Any new PDF or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

The Council will continue to review the website on a regular basis and will ensure action is taken on any reports of non-accessible content where appropriate.
